Bikram Yoga - Bikram yoga is an intelligently designed series of 26 poses performed in a heated room. It works the body from the inside out, from the micro to the macro level, benefiting every bodily system. Each pose stretches and strengthens the specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next pose. The Bikram method also works the organs, glands and nervous system in a profoundly beneficial manner.
People of any age and condition can do this yoga. It reduces the symptoms of many chronic diseases (including diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, knee pain and back pain) and is acknowledged by many as the best preventive activity for parts of the body that are healthy.
Many famous athletes attribute lack of injuries and longevity in their sport to this type of yoga. Professionals say it gives them the mental clarity and increased energy to excel in their fields. And Bikram yoga students agree that it helps them look great, feel great, and reduce stress. Physically, it is the perfect blend of strength, flexibility and balance. Mentally, it trains the mind to have faith in oneself, gain self-control, increase powers of concentration, and sustain contentment. Yoga is a wonderful journey every step of the way.
Silent Bikram - The same 26 poses that Bikram yogis love, but
without the instruction. The class is done in silence, allowing experienced
students to have a more personally guided experience with their bodies,
minds and their practice. The classes are teacher lead, so timing in and
out of postures is set. The one hour 6am classes are a great way to jump
start your day! Traditional timing and sequencing in the 90 minute silent
class is honored. Students must have attended at least 10 regular Bikram
yoga classes prior to attending a silent class.
Hatha Basics - A great place to start. This is the class where beginners learn the fundamentals of a yoga practice. We'll give you the essential alignment principles you will use in any yoga class you attend. We'll cover all the standing poses important to opening and strengthening the body. We'll also teach you how to build safe inverted postures-shoulder stand, hand stand, headstand.
Hatha I/II - Knowledge of the basics is a must. This is a step
up from "basics" so you can ramp it up a bit if you choose. Be ready to
explore being upside down, and deeper back bends (if you wish).
Lila Yoga - "Lila" is the Sanskrit word for "play" or "playful". In
Lila Yoga, the teacher will lead a vinyasa flow sequence for the first hour of
class, then there will be time for students to explore the theme of movement or
a particular pose further for the second half of class. The teacher is there for
the entire class to help guide your exploration, to answer questions, and offer
adjustments. Create the perfect practice for yourself... build on the theme the
teacher presented, or take off on your own and play!! Please arrive on time, but
you can leave whenever you wish after the flow is presented in the first half of
class.
Vinyasa - A style of hatha yoga that builds on the basics. Continuous yoga poses are linked by breath and movement to create a flowing sequence, which frees the spirit, clears the mind, and strengthens the body. Meditation, breath work and chanting are an essential component of Vinyasa. We offer different levels of Vinyasa classes to accommodate our students' different levels of experience:
All Levels - Again, knowledge of the basics is a must. Be ready
for faster movement and inverting. We'll give multiple options for more
advanced movements, so you are in control.
Intermediate - Just as it sounds. An in between step from all levels but
not quite as challenging as our intermediate/advanced. We allow for variations
to back off a bit or to step it up a notch. To be sure, knowledge of the basics
is a must.
Intermediate/Advanced - Our most challenging asana classes. Students
should have a full headstand practice (at the wall or away from the wall) and
the willingness to explore to their maximum.
Ashtanga - The primary series of the original Ashtanga yoga system as taught by Sri K. Pattabi Jois. Ashtanga is a set sequence done in a flowing manner and was the inspiration for all Power and Vinyasa
styles that came later. The primary series was designed to cleanse the body in
one's early stages of practice. There is a heavy emphasis on front bending to
properly prepare the body for back bends. Knowledge of the basics is helpful,
this is an all levels class.
Eclectic Yoga - This all levels class integrates postures, pranayama
(breathing), chanting and meditation techniques from various styles of yoga
including: Ashtanga, Iyengar, Restorative, Viniyoga, Sivananda, Vinyasa, Yoga
Therapy, and the Kundalini yoga traditions. This eclectic approach to yoga
allows you to move deeper into your practice, while building increased body
awareness. Eclectic class also incorporates principles of Ayurveda, working with
the seasons and body types. Most weeks the class has a "theme" we work with,
such as "Balance", "Core", "Chakras", "Fluidity" or "Loving Kindness". The focus
of the class is used throughout, from beginning to end, building a theme to
expand your practice and open your mind to new experiences. Come and try
something new!
Workday Yoga - A noon time class just for the 9 to 5 crowd. These classes are
basic yoga, accessible to ALL LEVELS and BEGINNERS. They are only 50 minutes in
length, done in an air conditioned room, will target stiff necks, shoulders,
legs and backs, and we'll send you back to work with a health snack! This will
do wonders for your work day, we promise!
Kundalini - Kundalini yoga is considered the yoga of awareness. "Kundalini" literally means the curl of the lock of hair of the beloved. Symbolically, it represents the energy, usually dormant, at the base of our spine, or "root chakra". Commonly known as "serpent energy", the classes are designed to wake up that "serpent", working upwards through the chakras or energy centers (know as nerve plexi in the western world) of the body.
Kundalini yoga stimulates and balances the glandular system, and by doing so, it can change a person's whole outlook on life! This system of yoga employs chanting (mantra), meditation (dhayana), moving poses (asanas) and traditional yogic methods to cleanse and rejuvenate your whole system. Kundalini is practiced in a cool room and employs some flowing postures, holding postures, meditation, simple stretches and relaxation techniques. Beginners and experts welcome! Wear comfortable clothing. Be prepared to feel your Kundalini rising!
Restorative Yoga - Developed by Judith Lasater and based on the
Iyengar prop system, restorative yoga is a deep healing and releasing type of
Hatha yoga. We practice approximately six different poses using bolsters,
blankets, eye pillows, and sandbags, resting in each pose for a minimum of 5
minutes to a maximum of 20 minutes. Watching the breath is a major focus of
restorative yoga. Once the body lets go and becomes still, the breath and the
mind are more easily noticeable. By practicing both the poses and the watching
of breath and mind we bring ourselves blissfully into the present moment. You
will be pampered and leave these classes feeling completely restored, much like
one feels after receiving a massage. These workshops run monthly and are
pre-register and pre-pay, maximum of five students per session.
Yin Yoga - Yin Yoga contains the
ancient, and some say original, form of asana practice. Yin Yoga works with
sensations and stretches deep in the connective tissues and joints, relative to
the more superficial yang tissues of muscles and skin worked through Vinyasa and
Hatha Yoga Class. Yin Yoga opens up these deep, dense, rarely touched areas that
can't be reached in a faster paced yoga class. Poses are held for longer periods
of time, so new depths of practice can be reached, deeper ranges of motion, and
an increased flow of energy to the deeper tissues of the body. Yin Yoga is the
perfect compliment and balance to the more active, yang practices such as Bikram
and Vinyasa. This class is appropriate for all levels.
